Architecture
The "palaces" of Minoan Crete are believed to have
revealed the earliest examples of architecture in
Europe. Drawing on that inspiration, three
distinguished architects designed Villa Joy,
in a simple yet highly evocative language of
polar opposites - black and white, light and
shade, glass and concrete. Contemporary
architecture in a land steeped in history.
The seductive notion of transparency,
combined
with the labyrinthine plan, and
subtle allusions to
Minoan architectural
elements intrigue discerning
taste, while
the spectacular view and setting make
the
structure an unparalleled accommodation in
Western Crete, and a joy to all the senses.
